Welcome to San Antonio!
It's a great place to call home!

San Antonio

Let me start by telling you about our great city.  Information about our unbelievable real estate market will follow.

First, forget everything you've seen in the western movies.

We don't live on big ranches and we don't ride around on horses. In fact, you have to go out of your way to find the longhorn cattle that you see in the westerns.

Some of us do wear cowboy boots but that's about as "western" as we get. You'll see more baseball caps than cowboy hats and tee-shirts are the unofficial attire . If you drive a truck you'll fit right in!

Because of our ideal climate, there are always things to do.  We're a short drive to the Gulf of Mexico with lots of things to see and do and to the Hill Country with pretty scenery and camping, hiking choices.  While San Antonio doesn't experience as much of the brilliant colors in the Fall that you see in most part of the country, you can see the trees in their finest autumn colors by going to the nearby Hill Country.

We have beautiful displays of wildflowers, mostly bluebonnets, in the Spring.  They can be seen on the roadsides throughout the city and surrounding countrside.

Winter?  What's that?

San Antonio is a beautiful, romantic, modern city with a strong Spanish influence that's filled with very friendly people. It's a large city (seventh largest in the country) and still growing but has a small town feel that's delightfully laid back. We just aren't in a big hurry unless we're driving.

Speaking of which, we have an excellent highway system that makes it easy to find your way around town. You may have to dodge a lot of pot holes and put up with endless road construction, however.  The good ole boys with their political connections are underhandedly trying to force toll roads on us but the public has said repeatedly that we don't want them, don't need them and we're going to go kicking and screaming before that happens!  Stay tuned.

You'll have a hard time running out of places to shop or eat in our great city so bring your credit cards and your appetite! The food is delicious!

Want things to do?  If you're a hopeless romantic, you'll love the River Walk. We have a very nice zoo that's fun for people of all ages and of course everyone must see the Alamo. Golfers never complain about the weather or lack of courses. You don't have to be a cowboy to enjoy the rodeo.  Our Fiesta puts Mardi Gras to shame.  Ten days of partying San Antonio style.  Like everything else we do, it's a class act!

We're very proud of our championship San Antonio Spurs!  It's nice to have a team of really nice guys representing our city.

You can check out these and more by clicking on the link to Things to See and Do in the column to the left.

Like what you've read so far?  It gets better!

If you're planning to move to San Antonio you'll be thrilled to find that real estate in San Antonio is extremely affordable! We laugh at the prices in other parts of the country and wonder why everybody doesn't move here.  Our property taxes are a bit on the high side (little over 3% of assessed value) and most of that is to pay for our excellent schools.

You can find a nice home in the low-to-mid $100,000 range and even below $100K, depending on what age home you're looking for and the amenities you need.  Homes in the $200-400K are becoming more abundant and, of course, come with more expensive amenities, but not necessarily larger lots. NOTE: click on Prices of Homes/Areas in the column on the left for more specific prices by area.

The typical home here is built on a concrete slab (we don't have basements), has one to three sides masonry (instead of four sides), and has an attached 2-car garage (carports are rare).  As large as Texas is, most newcomers are surprised to find homes built close together with small to moderate sized yards (wooden privacy fenced).

No, we're not in the desert so you'll find typical landscaping with trees and flowers instead of cacti. What we call trees in Texas would pass as a healthy shrub in most states!

If you're military you'll think you've died and gone to Heaven.  We have great medical facilities (although Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland is scheduled to close in 2012), large well-stocked commissaries and exchanges and some nice outdoor adventures waiting for you at the military facilities at Canyon Lake.  See the links on my website for complete military info.

So, if you're thinking about moving to San Antonio, don't even hesitate. You're going to love it.

As a "military wife" (Air Force) turned realtor with years of moving experience and real estate sales experience, I know all too well what's involved with buying or selling real estate. If you would like to work with someone who has been there and who truly understands what you're going through, please call me. I'd love to help.

Moving can be an emotional time but remember that memories are in your heart so that you can take them with you wherever you go.

Please keep my number handy and call me when your moving plans are complete. I'd love to help you with your real estate needs!

Your business and referrals are always appreciated!
